As I continue to study and research this drinking more water thing I wonder.  What are the benefits of drinking more water?

Are these benefits worth the efforts I have made?

The changes to my daily life?

Results

As I summarize this to myself, I have to say, for me, they are worth making the extra effort for.

  • The help with my arthritis inflammation.
  • Then there is the reduction of the pain.

Not Done yet

However, there are still problems in this area.  When I have 2 or more days without consuming enough water, I am aching and uncomfortable.  I find myself being reminded of the water drinking and its importance very quickly.

Being human, I am sorry to say that the habit is not yet that firmly established.   There was a really cold period of time in our part of the world.

I found that I was not as thirsty as on the warmer days.  My natural thirst was not there.   Before I realized it, I had let my body become dehydrated again.

After not having these symptoms for a while, I recognized the little signs. This called my attention to the fact that I was not drinking enough water.

Finally, I woke up to what my body was trying to tell me all along.

This brought out the pencil and paper.  Started me back to being accountable. Starting again, being accountable for my water drinking.  I do this by?  Again writing it down.

It is difficult to acquire new habits.

Those new habits that I now know are good for me.

I still have not completely recovered to the point that there is no inflammation pain.

However, it has only been about 6 days.  I am sure it will be a few more before I can completely say it is all gone again.

Then I think about the way the indigestion was taken care of so quickly.  Now, I realized that this was one of the first warnings of dehydration.

This bit of pain from indigestion?   Just like the discomfort for inflammation or arthritis joint pain.

It is all a cry from your body for water.  I just failed to recognize this.  Do you?

How much water is enough?

For me, drinking enough water until the day I quit hurting.  Now that I know that will help with the pain.

Does it happen overnight?  Of course not, but it happens.  I was not even drinking the “maintenance” amount of 1/3 the ounces of the number of pounds I weigh.

That is good enough for me.  This makes the adjustments necessary to make sure I get enough water down, worthwhile.

I do not like having to add the over-the-counter medications back to my day.  I am glad they are available.

However, I do not want to use them as a crutch to get through the days.  They are only intended for occasional temporary use.

How are your retirement days plans adding to the need for good health?

Realizing how much better the days are. Are benefits for drinking water worth the effort

Not a necessity for the day, anymore.  Yes, that is a relief.

Do you know the damage these innocent over-the-counter medications can do? They seem so innocent.  I can hear you now.

Yes, they are regulated by our federal government.

Sure you can get them without a visit to your Doctor.

They are probably safe when used as an occasional event.

I am sure it will be a few more days before I can say the pain is all completely gone again.

Indigestion

Then the way the indigestion was taken care of so quickly.  Again as I realized that this was one of the first warnings of dehydration.

I should have been warned by this pain.  I blindly ignored this when we had chili during the cold weather.  Yes, I drank more water while the pain was there.  Once gone, right back to not enough.

This bit of pain from indigestion, just like the discomfort for inflammation or arthritis joint pain.  It is all a cry from your body for water.

(Please note, if you have a long-standing problem with indigestion, it will probably take more that drinking for water to heal ulcers.

Or any other open sore in your digestive track.  You will probably need to change your diet a bit.  Take your medications a bit longer, but you should eventually get them healed.

Start by adding water until you have at least 1 oz. of water for each 3 lbs. you weigh.  It may take a bit more for your system to heal.  Hang in there.)

Energy

The real warning I had was when the energy started disappearing.

Did I pay attention?  No.

The business of needing a nap every day.  I was so blind.

This had been a way of life for so long, I did not even realize I was sliding back into it.  I did not realize I had reached the point that I was thinking “I need more energy.”

How much is enough?

For me till I quit hurting.   Now that I know that will help with the pain.

Does it happen overnight?  Of course not, but it happens.  That is good enough for me.  This makes the adjustment’s worthwhile.  The ones that are necessary to make sure I get enough water down.

I do not like having to add the over-the-counter medications back to my day.  I am glad they are available.

However, I do not want to use them as a crutch to get through the days. Would you?  They are only intended for temporary use.  Not a necessity for the day, every day.

In the natural remedies list

Water seems to be most beneficial for overall health.

For the maintenance of the functioning of the body.  The importance of having enough water to enable the natural secretions of the digestive track.   Enough water so this process will function properly from start to finish.

As I do more research and reading, digestive discomfort is the condition that most often sends us for medical care or advice.  As well as to the stores for the over-the-counter relief you hope to find there.

Do you think for a minute those companies are going to do extensive research to prove that water, plain water can be effective for preventing any of these conditions?  Of course not.

New Miracle Cure

Can you imagine all the water bottles all decked out with “indigestion relief” on the label?

Of course not.

Drinking enough water to enable the natural secretions.  Those secretions of the digestive track to function properly from start to finish.

Can you imagine all the bottles all decked out with “indigestion relief” on the label?  How much different the shelf would look with the actual relief your body needs.

What about a shelf of water labeled “Ex-lax?”

Not yet will we find a shelf stocked with what we really need.  Yet there will be a wide array of the different combinations to solve your problems.  Put money in the drug makers pockets.

Their livelihood rests on our dependency on their products.

There probably won’t be a big announcement about a “big breakthrough” in the medical community. At least not about the results of drinking enough water.

We will have to find out on our own.

But, after years of arthritis pain, I am willing to give this natural remedy a chance to work for me.  Will you?

I do think I need to change focus from drinking enough for maintaining.  Get back to drinking enough for the weight loss to show up.

That is when I really saw results.  Getting back to having a container of water in the fridge and drinking every ounce int it every day.

Either that or I will need to invest in the bottles of water and set out what I need to drink each day.  Then drink.  Get them down.

For me, there always needs to be a goal.  I like having goals. Something to work towards.   Don’t you?

What will you do, now that you have read how water heals?  Can you start with an extra glass a day?

This business of being happy in retirement will not happen all on its own.  I will need to help some.  Learn to help myself to a healthier lifestyle.
