With a better understanding of how water works in our bodies, I am amazed. Amazed that we are able to maintain any resemblance of health.   Our system is constantly dehydrated.

Understanding why

When you understand the function of water in your system, you will appreciate the necessity to drink enough water.

The solvent or water in your body is what regulates all functions of your body.

This regulation system is the one that makes your body run efficiently.  Water controls  the flow of solids that are necessary to life and bodily function.

Every system in the body is monitored and controlled by the amount of water your body has to work with at that time.

Water and it’s importance

Your blood distributes the needed elements to create the hormones, chemical messengers, and nutrients.

These important elements must get to the vital organs.  The vital organs use these elements to produce the  substance for use by the rest of the body. Just more benefits for drinking water on aging.

These substances are transmitted by the blood, which is, You guessed it, mostly water.

When there is any part of the body not getting its share of the needed water?Immediately your body goes into the self-protective mode.  This self-rationing mode attempts to hold on to what water it has to sustain itself.

This means that the valuable nutrients that organ produces and provides to the body are also reduced.

The balance needed to function properly

The water distribution in your body controls how efficiently or inefficiently your system works.  The production of the vital elements is affected.

The organs can’t produce properly when in a stressed or dehydrated state.

When your organs can’t produce the substance they are designed to make, they go in a restrictive mode and work with what they have.

What happens if the ration of water or solvent is inadequate for complete normal function?  Know the benefits for drinking water on aging.

How a shortage of water affects operations in your body

Our body adapts its’ operations.   Your body will manufacture and supply the basic elements for your bodily functions to working with the raw materials available.

Not enough water, poor food choices?  These conditions leave the body without basic needs.

Think about your blood trying to get to the various vital organs with the needed building materials.  Materials that you need to have a healthy  well-functioning body.

Then you better understand the need for more water.  You also now know the benefits for drinking water on aging.  Will you accept this information and let it work for you?

This is one thing we can do for ourselves.benefits for drinking water on aging

All these actions by our bodies have names that the scientific world uses.

Brains that don’t work or function as they should? Think about Dementia in its various forms.  Is it actually because of lack of water?

Diabetes?  Does this actually start because you do not drink enough water?

What about digestion?  Can your gassy stomach be dehydration based?

There is a good bit of research showing that arthritis is a result of chronic dehydration.

I need to do better to make sure to supply the needed help for my body functions.

Do you?

Can the benefits for drinking water on aging help you?

Are you making enough water available to your body?  Have you started your day by taking the time for a glass of water?

Was there a break for more through the morning?

Did you prepare with extra bottles of water for the visit to the golf course?

Can you take the time for good long drinks of water through the day?

It is important.

Then we have health care costs

When you go to the Dr. with issues.   Can the issue  correct its’s self  by adjusting your water intake each day?

You will probably receive a prescription to “relieve” whatever symptom you are in for.

Will this prescription make your body need to work harder?  To circulate help through your already stressed dehydrated system?

Your cells can not use the medication given correctly.   They are already not functioning as they should.

The medication causes other problems, not related to your issues.

More visits to your Dr.

The cycle of modern medicine would then include a medication to “relieve” the symptoms of the problems.  The problems caused by the first medication.

Is it a cycle that could be stopped by you drinking enough water?

Are you already in the medication cycle?   Please consider adding enough water to your day to make the medication work.

You might be able to slowly eliminate the medications.

To go through  your days with less prescription medication.

In my case, I was taking over-the-counter medication, not prescription. It was suggested by my physician.

However, it was not working properly, and I was taking more all along.  Not good for a body that is already dehydrated.

Stopping the all too frequent self-administration of the pain relievers was my goal.

Not surprisingly I have found that I have felt better each week.

  1. Akita,

Thank you for your question. That is the part I am working throught now. I think as a senior citizen 30 days is sometimes not an accurate timeframe for me.

For myself, I am trying to consistantly add 1 glass first thing in the morning, as well as one at 12 noon. That is in addition to any glass or bottle I have at my side during the day.

I drink 1 glass before I pour that first cup of coffee, and as near noon as I notice the time. An alarm would be ideal to remind me, and using the alarm function on my cell phone a good reminder. I need to add this to my day. Thanks for asking and making me think about how to help my self.

  2. thanks for your article Sami, it’s really helpful.

how would you create the habit of drinking more water daily? A study says that it takes around 30 days to create a new habit, so should I drink one more glass of water every day for 30 days, and then add one more during the next 30 days?

  3. Thanks Ray for taking the time to read my post. I hate to admit that I ignored this information for 10 years before paying attention. Too many years of working a small business, being the only one on staff all day. Just did not want to allow myself to consume much of anything that was l liquid. So now I am paying the price.

However the relief I have experienced from consuming more water has been so welcome! I do not know if it would have canceled the need for the hip replacement or not, but could have. The energy and pain relief were a bonus as I was trying for the weight loss help that some of my younger friends have experienced. However that level of 2 ounces for ever lb. of body weight has not been reached. We will see in a year how things are going. I know I want to age as well as possibel. Will be wonderful if healthier happens alomg with it.

  4. Hi Kerryanne,

Thanks for reading what I have learned about aging bodies. The absolute minimun you should drink is 1 oz of water for each 3 lbs. you weigh. Ideal amount for a healthy person is 1 oz. for each 2 lbs. of body weight. To get to the relief amount when your body already has symptoms is 1 oz. for each lb. that you weight. For weight loss the amounts reccommmended are 2 oz. water for each lb. That was what I was trying for. Never did get there. Some of my younger friends were successful doing this. So, although the weight loss goal seems far away, the unexpected benefit of the relief from pain was so rewarding. The weight loss will come I am sure. Nothing happens as quickly at it once did. I have been blessed with many years.

** (These amounts are the result of many hours of study and research.)

  5. Hi Sami, thanks for your post about importance of drinking water. I must admit I tend to avoid drinking water towards the evening for not wanting to keep going to the toilet in the middle of the night. More so often since I hit 50.

But I didn’t know that the lack of water in your body could cause dementia and diabetes, so I must be really careful now, as I could be diabetic any time, and dementia later on, both of which I desperately want to avoid at all costs.

Thank you for the great article, yes I will drink one more glass of water starting today.

  6. Thank you for all your research Sami. It makes sense to drink more water as the health benefits associated with drinking more water is really good to know. When you say to drink more water, how much should we be drinking in a day for example? 1 litre or more?
