How will Millennials work attitudes help find jobs for Senior Citizens? What can you learn from them? Are you still working even though you are retirement aged or older?
Does everyone seem to be a kid?
Should you be considering adopting some of these habits from the other side?
Are you still working even though you are retirement aged or older? Maybe you should consider adopting some of these habits from Millennial aged workers.
The retired person in today’s workforce sometimes finds themselves a bit frustrated when the work habits of the millennial aged people. The work attitude may not measure up to your standard. Their ideas of a successful work week and yours will probably differ if we are just considering hours worked.
If production is considered in the picture, it may be that the newer approach will work as well.
As the world changes and the ability to work from home grows, the requirement of a “warm body” at the desk may not so strict.
This will allow a less traditional schedule than you are accustomed to having. Many times this is more comfortable for the retired but still employed work force. It just takes some adjustment.
Millennials and their work habits.
Known for their less intense attitude for work, the millennials have a completely different mind set. While the mind set of this age employee is different, they are no less skilled to do their jobs. They usually are educated and able to do what is needed.
This age worker may have some ideas that break away from the “we have always done it this way” mode.
They usually are educated and understand technology and are able to do what is needed. Or they have the skills to learn quickly.
Their approach to each job is not to follow the path already there, but to have a “How can we better get this done?”
This attitude with the easy to learn skills they have makes them able to adapt to many work environments quickly.
Retirement Aged workers
As a retired worker who acquired their skills along the way are you not as sure of how to adapt these skills to what is needed today? Are you a person who never misses work and is never late?
That person who never misses work and is never late? While an important thing, it is not always as important to a millennial worker. And their job may not rest on starting promptly at any particular time. The new attitude is to do what is expected within reason. Complete the assignment with in reason. Certainly not the work place rules a few years ago.

How can this affect you
So I ask you, “Are you benefiting from the work habits of millennial workers?” Have you adjusted to how this can affect you, the retirement aged employee who is still working?
Sometimes you will find that your work habits learned in another time and another work climate may be considered out dated.
Do you find yourself somewhere between these two ladies in this picture? If you are retired and still working you know which one of these 2 you find yourself feeling. Neither really show you. And well they may be from another business climate. You may find that some changes will make your working during retirement easier to do.
Yes, some of your attitudes towards your work are from another business climate. You may find that some changes will make your working during retirement easier to do.
The importance of your attitude
The attitude of placing more importance on liking your job and doing what you want to do.
When you are entering the workforce this happens automatically. You usually just start out glad to have a job. Then you are soon checking out your options in your first place of employment.
Seeing if this fits you and your work personality, you may find working easier and getting to work easier. You will not be so inclined to look for more work, but be content in the present job.
However, if you do not like what you are doing, you will find yourself another spot on the work force, or you will soon be looking for a complete change from Burger King to Wendy’s.
Change may be good
As the years pass and your skill levels increase, you will probably soon find yourself entering management at either of these places. If you continue to like your job and continue to be a dependable employee. You settle in and start to lay the foundation where you are.

Another attitude to your work
There is much less emphasis on a “good job” with benefits. As more of the population is technology based and uses this technology proficiently, the new job market is also of the same nature.
The young adults live at home with the parents longer. They are less determined to “be on their own.” This may mean that the kid will appreciate the leadership suggestions you give, they will still be under your roof and in your refrigerator.
Good or bad, this is the new trend. So many do not feel the need to be “self-supporting or independent.”
Start up jobs are paying what to retirees was a good salary when you were young, but today does not pay their bills.
They “need” the smart phones with the extended plans and a monthly price tag that would have fed a family of 4 a month easily, years ago.
This is part of the reason we have trouble adjusting our work ideas and habits. Getting your head wrapped around the financial world for this new age of employees requires effort and a bit of time.
They know that they have skills
There are fewer times when the panic button is pushed for present day employees.
They do not think in do or die terms as the older worker does. If this attitude is adopted by a retiree in the work force, you can have an easier shift into the new work world.
Now, I hear you already. No, I do not know your present work situation. I do know that nine times out of 10, your boss goes home before you do, comes into work after you come in. This boss is probably at least 20 years younger than you.
They already have a different work attitude. They are not so willing to give up family time. Working during the weekends? Not them. There are work hours and off times. The two are kept separate.
Changes in jobs for senior citizens
Yes, the world has changed. You can not change that.
You, as a retiree who is still working, can learn to appreciate the change it brings. This can help you as you are staying in the workplace.
Jobs for senior citizens are changing as well. You must learn to bring a good mix of habits and attitudes. The end result will make you a better employee in this work space. You will be happier, and more productive.
The more relaxed attitude about work.
You may not be able to move back in with parents if you can’t pay your rent, but you can find somewhere to live. There may not have complete control of your life or your living space, as you do not have a parent standing over you protecting you.
Is there a relative with an extra bedroom? This combining living space is another result of the lack of ability to pay.
This may be harder to do for someone who has lived their whole adult life independently but is an adjustment that could work.
The big thing with the adjustment is the trial period. The time before the sharing is comfortable and naturally normal for you. This freedom is what the younger ones do not understand.
The lack of freedom is what the retired have trouble understanding. If we adapt their work habits, we will find ourselves needing to adapt their ideas about independence and living and what we have to have.
If I have to choose between a smartphone and living by myself, I know immediately which choice I would make.
Yes, you as a retired individual can make choices that allow more freedom in your days.
The real questions
As a working retiree, are you working because you did not acquire a hobby or interest to have something you really wanted to do at retirement?
Do you really have to continue working? Take a moment and review the true reasons you are still employed. It can be a surprise to think the thing through. Regardless of your reasons to continue working, some adjustments in how you think about your work will make this a better experience for you.
